Downtown Fortuna’s First Friday

Fortuna… Over 17 Downtown Fortuna businesses follow suit and stayed open late for Fortuna’s First Friday
.
Since January 2012, Fortuna Downtown Art Gallery has been holding its own “Arts Alive” in Fortuna. After six months, the Downtown Merchant Association agreed they needed to stay open late to sup-port & help the night life for their new downtown business, Main Street Art Gallery.

Chuck Bowden, owner of Main Street Art Gallery, has a number of art collections and art contacts. He plans on staying open late 6pm-10pm the first Friday of every month for Fortuna’s First Fridays. His art show will stay up for 2 months, although he will try to have different music every month.

July was the first month other Downtown Merchants stayed opened late. Eleven businesses offered business specials, an art displayed or live music. This month on August 3rd, 17 businesses stayed open for this monthly event. “August was a great example of how this event will grow. A number of businesses that were open in July had a better experience and turn out in August” quote from Dian-na Crow, Fortuna Business Improvement District. In August, multiple businesses offered live music, an art show, and/or business specials. The art showings seem to really attract the crowds. Main Streets Art Gallery had a collection of photos called “Stereo Butts of the 60’s and 70’s”. They also had photos of Barnum & Bailey’s Circus from the 1920’s and lives music by Riding Double.

Ferndale Jewelers had artists Dakota’s Designs showing for the evening.
Strehl’s Family Shoes and Repair had ceramic artist Linda Gardner for the evening.
Precision Intermedia has a month long art showing from artist Valerie Carmen (water color) and Mark Wells (Oil & photography).
Fortuna Music Mart had live music from a string quartet and will have month long showing from artist Stir Fry Willie (pop acrylic).
Trendz Clothing Store had a live air brushing display from artist and Fortuna business owner Bo Derringer.
The Fortuna Arts Council opened the Downtown Store Gallery and local artist invited event goers an up close look at their art pieces.
Kozy Korner Gifts featured one of their many local artist and artisans.

The next Fortuna First Friday is scheduled for the September 7th from 6pm -9pm. We invite everyone to please come and support our local musician, artists and businesses. If you are a local musician or artist that is interested in showing or playing for one of our Fortuna First Friday, we encourage you to email fortunadowntown@sbcglobal.net or call 707-725-9261.
For a list of participating businesses will be available for pick up on Wednesday September 5th at Kozy Korner Gifs 1103 Main Street Fortuna.

Crosbie Chiropractic Launches New Educational Web Site

FORTUNA, CA—Crosbie Chiropractic has launched a new website: www.crosbiechiropractic.com, to educate those who want to learn about how chiropractic treatments can improve overall health and well-being, naturally.
The company worked closely with two other Humboldt County businesses, Precision Intermedia and Delightful Eye, to develop the website as a comprehensive educational resource.
Dr. Michael Crosbie, owner of Crosbie Chiropractic, has written nearly 50 articles for the Times-Standard since 2005 and all are posted on the new website. The articles address a myriad of conditions Dr. Crosbie sees patients for, from low back pain to migraine headaches.
Dr. Crosbie is hoping the new website will educate those unfamiliar with how chiropractic adjustments can help alleviate pain and heal the body or “turn on the life force,” as Dr. Crosbie refers to it.
“What I mean by ‘turn on the life force’ is that we all have an inner healing energy that when released can heal and rejuvenate our bodies. I see it every day in my practice,”
said Dr. Crosbie.
Crosbie Chiropractic is located at 1828 Main Street, Fortuna, next door to Coast Central Credit Union. For more information, visit www.crosbiechiropractic.com or call 707-725-5668.
