Merchants announce winners in clean-up challenge
Fortuna’s Downtown merchants association announced the winning teams today in their block beautification challenge. Members of the block between 12th street and 11th on the south side of Main were judged to have done the most to “clean up and beautify” their part of downtown.
There were several teams that were close behind and two businesses that deserved an additional pat on the back, according to the judges. The group of businesses between 11th and 10th on the south side of the Main was second overall; the block between 10th and 9th on the north side of Main was third overall.
The hair salon “J H and Company” at 557 9th street was recognized for an outstanding effort on flower beds and cleanup. Christy’s Heritage Villa was singled out for window displays for Rodeo and AutoXpo and flower baskets.
Downtown businesses were asked to clean-up and enhance their storefronts, windows, sidewalks and window displays between July 7 and July 23. A team of four impartial judges took note of each block of businesses before the contest started and went back and judged progress after the period was over.
The winning team and recognized businesses will receive Fortuna Bucks or downtown restaurant certificates along with awards for their hard work.
The contest is a promotion of the Fortuna Downtown Business Association.
