FORTUNA BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT

The FBID Board of Directors is a non-political entity committed to the strengthening of Fortuna's business community. Fortuna Business Improvement District Board meetings are open and public under California law.

Fortuna Business Improvement District – Board of Directors –Mission Statement

The goal of the Board of Directors and Staff of the Fortuna Business Improvement District is to work together with Fortuna’s diverse business community to effect positive economic change.

We plan to achieve this by presenting a proactive, cohesive image of integrity, value and service through promotion of community events, the retention and recruitment of businesses and provision of effective public relations, advertising and information services.

Minutes for July 7, 2010

BUSINESS

Core Area Expansion:
Duane Rigge will inform the board of the process and FBID’s financial responsibility for the expansion of the core area for Strongs Creek Plaza.

City – Notice of Completion & Environmental Document Transmittal
The city has now put out the DRAFT EIR for the general plan and it can be reviewed on the City’s web site. Note: This is a 1600+ page document, warning if you try to print.

FBID Strategic Planning Meeting:
Review packet and letter for business recruitment the FBID office has put together. FBID office needs to put out a “request for proposal” to businesses interested in designing the FBID brochure.

Shop Fortuna campaign/ FBID 20 years:
What would the board like to see done for this campaign? Review some of the ideas from the FBID office.  What is the budget for this campaign?

Associate members for FBID:
Some businesses have expressed interest in becoming FBID members. Business like insurance companies and some of our banks are willing to pay an FBID assessment. Some home based businesses have relocated to Hydesville/Carlotta area and would also like an opportunity to stay in the BID.  If we take associate members what would we charge them? How would other Fortuna Business feel?

Performance Review
FBID board will go into closed session for a performance review on Dianna Crow - FBID Coordinator.

New Businesses
Taco Bell building is sold and business owners hope to open in the next five-six months.
Denny’s – Lots of rumors, but there are a couple people still looking into the building and business opportunities!

Newsletter
Still in the works and won’t be out until the second week of August.

Letter for C Crane
Crow is going to write a letter to the engineer working with C Crane asking them to speed up the process. C Crane hope is to move the manufacturing and shipping of their products to the old bowling alley. The engineer sent an email to the Crane’s in the beginning of the year and said all plans would be completed by April 30, 2010. The Crane’s have attempted many times to contact the engineer from May 1st to August 1st and have received no contact back. The hope is the main street location will be remolded and turned into a retail location. The upstairs will accommodate cubical for office spaces to help them grow.    

Events
Rodeo week was great! Redwood Village had great attendance and handed out 120 plus bags, as a thank you for bring your family to the shopping center! The pony ride lady gave 195 rides in 3 hours. All vendors seemed really happy!

AutoXpo– Sock hop was well attended as well and Saturday 220 more Redwood Village bags were given away!

Hops in Humboldt is the next event August 28, 2010

Apple Harvest – Another meeting will be called soon. This meeting will include someone from all the core event areas (Parks, Downtown, Redwood Village, Midtown Plaza, Strongs Creek Plaza and of course Clendenen’s) to work on the event as a whole to make it more cohesive.
